Hornby has launched a three-pack set of consecutively numbered 00-gauge 20-ton HCP hopper coke wagons, Nos B448682-4, which follow every intricate detail of the Shildon originals, of which some 1150 examples were constructed.
The wagons had steel top rails rather than the wooden ones of the former London Midland & Scottish Railway, and on the first BR-built examples, the steel rails continued around the ends as well. The Hornby models, however, reflect the later version on which the end rails were replaced by full-height end sheeting.
