The latest OO-scale Hornby model to arrive at RMM is that of rebuilt ‘Patriot’ 4-6-0 No. 45534 E Tootal Broadhurst, which will be reviewed by Nigel Burkin in next month’s issue.
It was in August 1945 that the LMS authorised the rebuilding of 18 ‘Patriots’ to 6P classification (later 7P) to meet the postwar needs of accelerated passenger services, and this was achieved by the fitting of 2A taper boilers, the replacement of the original 3500-gallon Fowler tenders with a 4000-gallon type, and replacing the rather narrow original ‘Patriot’ cabs with a wider Stanier type.
