Although I have lived in and around Southampton for more than 45 years, I spent my schooldays in Lancaster, and one of my classmates lived in one of the houses shown in the ‘wish list’ photograph of the LMS diesel twins Nos. 10000 and 10001 (page 17, RMM October).
The house was next to a footbridge over the line that stood just out of shot to the rear of the train, but which was demolished as part of the West Coast Main Line electrification.
The train is seen approaching Barley Cop Lane, and not passing Morecambe South as the caption states. Morecambe South (which had a signalbox during my time in Lancaster) was about three-quarters of a mile further north.
